A traveller sees one itinerary. Behind it sits a network of airlines, accommodation partners, guides, transport providers and travel professionals. The quality of those relationships has a direct effect on the experience we can deliver.
More than a supplier list
Having a supplier’s rates and contact details is useful, but it is not the same as knowing how you will work together. A relationship develops through accurate communication, reliability and mutual respect.
Can we reach one another when a flight changes? Will information be shared promptly? Can a problem be resolved professionally? Those questions matter because travellers experience the journey as a whole, even when several businesses deliver it.
Trust across distance
An international advisor entrusting a client to an African operator needs confidence in the people on the ground. That confidence comes from clear quotations, destination knowledge, dependable responses and responsibility when a problem occurs.
A website can introduce a business. Consistent professional behaviour is what sustains the relationship. This is particularly relevant as we develop connections with partners in North America and other international markets.
Bring value to the partnership
A productive relationship cannot be based only on what one party wants to receive. We need to understand what we contribute: accurate destination information, appropriate clients, reliable operations or a well-matched product.
Industry meetings, trade events and familiarisation opportunities can deepen that understanding. A conversation gives us a chance to listen as well as explain what we do.
Reputation grows through everyday work
How we treat a small supplier or respond to a difficult enquiry can be remembered long after the transaction. There is value in building relationships before we urgently need them.
At Cherut, I want growth to be measured partly by the quality of the partnerships we develop. Technology will continue to change booking and distribution, but travel still depends on people trusting one another with a journey.
