I arrived in Namibia with experience in travel, but also with a new market to understand. Working here through Cherut Travel & Safaris has given me two perspectives: appreciation for the destination and curiosity about what its tourism businesses can build.

The strength is in the combination

Namibia’s appeal is not limited to one attraction. Desert, wildlife, coastline, culture and a remarkable sense of space can form part of the same journey. Sossusvlei, Etosha and the coast around Swakopmund offer distinctly different experiences.

For a traveller interested in nature, photography or an unfamiliar landscape, that combination is compelling. The task for operators is to design a journey that gives each place enough time.

Tourism is an ecosystem of businesses

Attractions alone do not deliver a visitor’s experience. Accommodation, transport, guides, operators and customer service all play a part. The quality of each affects the whole journey.

Visitor spending can support restaurants, craftspeople, transport businesses and many others. Thinking about tourism as an ecosystem helps us see why good local partnerships matter beyond an individual booking.

A distinctive part of a wider journey

Namibia should be a destination travellers actively choose. It can also form part of a wider Southern African itinerary when their interests, time and budget allow.

Regional travel depends on practical planning. Local knowledge of distances, suppliers and transport is valuable to international advisors who need a dependable partner. Our contribution is to make a proposed experience work on the ground.

Listen to the place where you are building

Entering a different business environment requires humility. Experience from another market is useful, but it does not remove the need to listen, understand relationships and adjust an approach.

My ambition is for Cherut to remain rooted in Namibia while developing regional and international connections. Knowing our home market well is the foundation for that work.
