One of the pleasures of working in travel is seeing someone’s understanding of a place change after visiting it. Africa is still too often discussed as a single destination. Its diversity gives tourism professionals a much more interesting story to tell.
Let the differences shape the journey
Travel through Namibia, and a visitor can encounter desert, coastline and wildlife. Continue into Botswana or elsewhere in Southern Africa and the landscapes, cultures and experiences change again.
This variety should inform how we design and describe travel. The objective is not to collect countries. It is to give people time to understand and enjoy the places they visit.
An exceptional place needs excellent service
African tourism has a great deal to offer. Our responsibility is to ensure the service surrounding the destination matches the experience we promise.
That means accurate information, reliable operations, transparent pricing and knowledgeable people. An itinerary should be attractive, but it also needs to be practical and supported throughout the journey.
Build the bridge to international markets
Some travellers and advisors know about safari but have less familiarity with Namibia or the combinations available across Southern Africa. Helping them understand those choices creates an opportunity for local businesses.
Destination knowledge becomes valuable when we can communicate it clearly and deliver consistently. This is one reason I want to develop relationships with international markets, particularly North America.
A place for African entrepreneurs
Digital tools and international connections give African tourism professionals more ways to present their work directly. We can help shape how the continent is described and experienced.
I want Cherut to participate in that work: rooted in our destinations, knowledgeable about our products and confident in the value we contribute. There is much more for travellers to discover, and much more for our industry to build.
